Why Bishkek Is a Great Ski Base
Most visitors to Kyrgyzstan arrive through Bishkek, and the good news is you don’t need to travel far to find snow. Three ski areas are within a day-trip radius of the capital, each with a different character.
Too-Ashuu Pass
Distance from Bishkek: ~90 km (1.5–2 hours) Elevation: ~2,500–3,400m
Too-Ashuu sits on the main Bishkek–Osh highway at the top of a dramatic pass. The resort is small but offers impressive elevation and reliable snow. The drive itself is scenic — climbing from 800m in Bishkek to over 3,000m at the pass.
Best for: Day trips, intermediate skiers, road-trip scenery Tip: Check road conditions in winter — the pass can close temporarily during heavy snow.
Orlovka
Distance from Bishkek: ~60 km (1–1.5 hours) Elevation: ~1,800–2,200m
Orlovka is the closest ski area to Bishkek and the most accessible for a half-day session. It’s a smaller, local-oriented hill — don’t expect world-class terrain, but it’s functional and convenient.
Best for: Quick ski sessions, beginners, locals Tip: Weekdays are quieter and have shorter lift lines.
